Tune in to "In Other Words" this Tuesday, January 26 from 2-3pm as host Jennifer LoveGrove interviews Damian Rogers about her book Paper Radio. They'll read poems, discuss writing, play tunes, and charm the pants off you.

About the book: Damian Rogers tracks the transformative moment, where emotion and deep memory seek form through sound and image. Her poems tune into a stream of cosmic chatter, channeling voices that tell their stories slant, from a chaste nineteenth century utopian mystic to a chorus of crones to the radical characters of Detroit’s sixties-era radical underground. Examining the equally futile and seductive impulses to chase both chaos and perfection, Rogers taps into history and mythology as each transmission mines material that is at once personal and public.

About the author: Damian Rogers was born and raised in suburban Detroit. She holds a bachelor’ s degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a graduate degree from the Bennington Writing Seminars in Bennington, Vermont. Her poems have been published in Brick Magazine, The Walrus, Salt Hill, MoonLit, and This Magazine. She lives in Toronto.

About the host: Jennifer LoveGrove has been a host and programmer at "In Other Words" since June 2007. She has published two books of poetry, is completing a novel, and was recently nominated for a K.M. Hunter Artist Award for literature.

Listen to Author Kristen den Hartog on Tuesday, January 19th

I am very excited that Kristen den Hartog, author of many books will be my guest on Tuesday, January 19th at 2 p.m.

We will be discussing her latest book, The Occupied Garden, the story of a market gardener and his fiercely devout wife, raising their young family in Holland during the Nazi occupation.

Tues. January 12th: Two playwrights

Please join host Myna Wallin on Tues. Jan. 12th 2010, for an in-depth interview with Adam Seelig, playwright/artistic director of One Little Goat Theatre, and Dominik Loncar, playwright/artistic director of Inspirato Festival, a festival of short plays. Seelig is a translator, poet and director, who most recently wrote and directed Talking Masks (Book Thug, 2009). Loncar founded a 10-minute play festival (inspiratofestival.ca) which took in over three hundred submissions recently, from both Canada and the U.S. I'm looking forward to talking to each writer about his craft and plans for the future. Tune in to "In Other Words" at 2:00 p.m. this Tuesday for an interview by Diana Kiesners with Karen Mulhallen, poet, teacher and Editor-in-Chief of Descant magazine.

Karen will talk about her poetry, her scholarly work, and what it's like to have been at the helm of Descant for more than 30 years. She'll also discuss and read some of the poems in her latest collection, Acquainted with Absence: Selected Poems.

In his foreword to Acquainted with Absence, Douglas Glover writes:

This isn’t a book, it’s a keen and a lament. It’s words shimmering over the void. It’s whistling in the dark. It’s lusty, lorn, fearful, lonely, melancholy, defiant, ebullient, mischievous, loopy, solemn, comic, mysterious, fragile, erudite, and grand.

Stephanie Dickison is a journalist, columnist, essayist and cultural critic who has published hundreds of articles, interviews, essays, columns, profiles, features and reviews. Her most recent book is The 30-Second Commute: A Non-Fiction Comedy About Writing & Working From Home.

Allyson Latta is an independent literary editor who teaches memoir writing through Days Road Writers' Workshops as well as libraries, writers’ organizations and literary festivals. She has edited nominees for the Man Booker Prize for Fiction, and winners of the Commonwealth Writers' Prize, the Giller Prize, the Governor General's Literary Award, and the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize. In spring 2004 Allyson developed and began teaching her first online course on memoir writing for Ryerson University. Today, through her workshops, she offers encouragement and guidance to memoirists of all ages.
